DECISIONS - BAY OF PLENTY REGIONAL COUNCIL PROPOSED PLAN CHANGE 2 (MAINTENANCE ZONES) TO THE ON-SITE EFFLUENT TREATMENT (OSET) PLAN

The Bay of Plenty Regional Council notified its decisions on Proposed Plan Change 2 (Maintenance Zones) to the OSET Plan on 10 September 2013. If you have an existing septic tank or OSET system these changes could affect you.

Some of the key decisions are listed below:

- Properties must connect to reticulation if it is available;
 
- Rotorua Lakes Properties will be required to install an aerated wastewater treatment system with nutrient removal capabilities (AWTS + NR) or obtain a resource consent and pay a financial contribution by the following dates:

o    Rotoiti, Rotoma, Rotoehu - 1 December 2016;

o    Tarawera - 1 December 2017;

o    Mamaku - 1 December 2018;

o    Properties within 200m of any Rotorua Lake communities not otherwise identified above - 1 December 2014; and

- Financial contributions may be payable when resource consent is sought.  This will be based on the dollar cost to remove 1kg nitrogen.
