Matthew joined Sharp Tudhope in 2008 and is an Associate in our Disputes Team and Environment Team. He has over 13 years’ legal experience, including 2 years as a judges’ clerk in the High Court, Wellington and 7 years practising at two “magic circle” law firms in London.

Matthew acts for commercial clients across a number of sectors/industries including property, kiwifruit, electricity, retail, forestry, agricultural products, health products, fishing and professional and financial services. Matthew also acts for individuals and private, charitable and consumer trusts. He has acted for a number of investors who suffered losses arising out of the recent collapse of several finance companies.

Matthew routinely acts on disputes involving breach of contract, misrepresentation, Fair Trading Act claims, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, unconscionable bargains and breach of trust. Much of this work arises out of commercial contracts, company disputes and property claims.

Matthew also acts on resource management matters; including resource consent applications and appeals, submitting and appealing on District and Regional Plans and designations. Matthew is a committee member of the Resource Management Law Association (Bay of Plenty Branch).

Matthew also specialises in trust and estate disputes, maritime and shipping law and regulatory issues relating to fisheries, financial advisors and real estate agents.

In addition to appearing at all court and tribunal levels, Matthew also acts as counsel in arbitrations and mediations. He has also appeared in a number of urgent interim injunction applications.

Matthew is on the Board of Trustees of Bellevue School.
